Why I Give: Q&A With Melissa Lewis Bernstein ’69
Q: Tell us a little about your life today.
A: I have been married for 41 years to a guy I met at a party given by an R-MWC alumna. My daughter and son-in-law are here in NYC. I retired years ago from the fashion industry. (I was the American couture buyer at Bergdorf Goodman.) I have served on the board of trustees and in several fundraising positions thanks to training from Skip Kughn and Harriet Whitten '59. I also served as president of the New York Junior League and other boards. I have co-chaired the New York Junior League capital campaign and the recent Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest capital campaign. I am still very involved with both organizations.
Q: What is your fondest memory from the College?
A: The Nursery School (I was a psychology major) and the dance department.
Q: What was your favorite tradition?
A: Serenades.
Q: Why do you support the College with a planned gift?
A: I want to thank the College for my four years there.
Q: Why is it important for people to give to Randolph?
A: It is important so that Randolph will continue as a strong liberal arts institution for generations to come.
Q: What advice would you give to a new graduate?
A: Take ALL you have learned there, inside the classroom and out, and USE it in the next chapters of your life.
